To fully enjoy the benefits of this wellness ritual, the thermal cycle should be repeated at least three times in the following order:
In the Village, we enjoy a “happy sweat.” This first step of the thermal cycle allows the body to store in heat and dilates the skin’s pores. It’s an opportunity to drift into a soothing, meditative state in one of the saunas, each providing a different atmosphere. In some installations, introspection is experienced in silent stillness. In other saunas, the experience unfolds to the rhythm of a ritual or music that fills the entire space.
Sensation after the cycle: Relaxation and serenity
Recommended duration: 10 to 15 minutes or at least 8 minutes to enjoy the desired full effects
The transition from hot to cold is experienced intensely. The thermal shock accelerates the heart rate, tightens the skin’s pores and releases adrenaline. The entire body becomes alert in an instant. Whether in a bath with a freezing waterfall, under a shower of ice water poured from a bucket or during a brisk winter walk, the cold can be experienced differently with each cycle.

Recommended duration: 10 to 15 seconds
After going from one extreme to the other, the cycle ends with a period of rest. During this time, blood circulation and breathing rebalance while the body’s temperature and heart rate return to normal. The earlier release of adrenaline is replaced by endorphins, the happy hormones. The mind is alert, the body is full of life and bristling with energy.

Last year, Aufgusshow introduced a new kind of spectacle to the Spa Village. The sauna became a stage, and Show Aufguss brought storytelling, music, and choreography into the heart of the ritual. This year, something new arrives.
Competitors can showcase their craft in three categories: Show Aufguss solo, Show Aufguss duo, and Modern Classic Aufguss. Some will tell bold, theatrical stories. Others will focus on technique, rhythm, and connection. All share the same goal: to earn their place on the international stage.
Almost a year later, the Ritual Artisan from Nordik Spa Village Chelsea is returning to the stage—once again at Thermea Spa Village Whitby—for Aufgusshow 2026, ready to tell a new story in the sauna and invite guests a little closer to themselves.
