Winter in Winnipeg can be harsh and cold, but it’s precisely this climate that makes days feel especially rich and memorable. For me, winter is a chance to slow down, enjoy cozy moments, and create little rituals of happiness. Let’s spend one winter day together, full of experiences and warmth!
Breakfast to Start the Day: Clementine Cafe

My ideal winter day begins, of course, with a delicious breakfast. Clementine Cafe fits this perfectly: a cozy spot specializing in breakfasts and brunches. I often start my day here—every menu item is hearty, and the matcha is top-notch. After a satisfying breakfast, I head out for a walk right in the same neighbourhood.
A Walk Through Exchange District and First Fridays

Exchange District is a neighbourhood of charming historic brick buildings, home to dozens of cafes and local businesses.
Though it’s close to downtown, the streets are perfect for leisurely walks. I love popping into every shop and discovering something new. Of course, the visit is never complete without a few little purchases.
Every first Friday of the month, local businesses, artists, and creatives open their doors for First Fridays—a unique experience where I always find new hidden corners of this intriguing neighbourhood.
Skating and Hot Chocolate at The Forks

Next stop: The Forks, just a short walk from Exchange District. In winter, this area is especially magical, with a variety of restaurants, shops, and the province’s longest skating trail along the Nestaweya River.
Skates can be rented on-site, but I bring my own—they’ve become a must-have for winter in Manitoba.
After skating, I usually wander through the shops on the second floor of The Forks. There’s so much to discover, from books to unique local finds.
The perfect way to rest before embarking on the next part of the day is with a cup of hot chocolate at Fools and Horses, which is right here at The Forks.
The Highlight of the Day: Thermea Spa Village Winnipeg

After walking, skating, and braving the cold, I'm ready to warm up—the spa is the perfect way to end any winter day. Thermea Spa Village offers a variety of thermal zones where you can create your own hot‑cold‑relax ritual: hot pools, different saunas, and cozy relaxation areas with quiet reading nooks. Every space is designed for full relaxation. Alternating temperatures help the body and mind disconnect completely from the outside world. Visiting on weekdays or weeknights is especially delightful: fewer people, and the atmosphere becomes even calmer and cozier.
My absolute favourite is the Aufguss ritual in the sauna. A stone-topped stove heats the room, releasing the fragrance of essential oils or herbal infusions. Artisans wave towels, spreading aromatic steam throughout the space. This ritual is a perfect way to reconnect with yourself (and warmth) after a frosty day.
The outdoor thermal baths are equally impressive: you can switch from invigorating cold plunge to relaxing hot bath.
Of course, the restaurant is not to be missed. The cheese charcuterie board is unforgettable, and I can never get enough of the chocolate fondue. Unlimited herbal teas in the relaxation areas are a special treat: it’s a joy to curl up with a book by the fireplace, warm up, and completely disconnect from everyday worries.
The spa’s atmosphere is incredibly calming: soft music, steam, and warmth create an almost magical sense of tranquility. For me, Thermea Spa Village is a wonderful way to slow down and give my body and mind a proper rest — a perfect ending that makes the day feel complete and harmoniously balanced.
