Every year, as the holidays approach, I find myself craving a slow day of relaxation amongst the heightened busyness of the season. This year, I found that slow day at Thermea Spa Village Whitby, and I’m still thinking about it days later.

I visited with a close friend to experience one of their holiday gift packages, which included Spa Village Access, the Kalla Flotation Bath, and the Rhassoul Experience. If you’ve never been, Thermea Spa Village isn’t your typical spa. It’s an open-air wellness village built around the Nordic tradition of thermotherapy. I didn’t realize how much tension and stress I was holding until I got there.

Arrival & First Impressions

It felt amazing pulling into Whitby that morning and seeing the beautiful architecture of Thermea Spa Village in the distance: wooden beams, natural stone, and steam rising from the still pools.

After checking in, we settled into our lockers, wrapped ourselves in the robes, and made our way into the Spa Village. We could already tell this was going to be a fantastic day.

Spa Village Access: Saunas, Baths & Rest Areas

Our first stop was the thermal cycle, the core of the Village. We were blown away by the countless saunas, hot and cold baths, and lounge areas. We nearly spent 10 minutes simply exploring everything there is to offer.

I highly recommend popping into the Logga sauna, a traditional dry sauna infused with essential oils, and don’t shy away from the cold plunges! They’re definitely intimidating, especially this time of the year, but it is well worth that exhilarating feeling.

If you’re looking to read a book, nap, or chat softly with a friend, there are many different places to lounge. Whether an outdoor hammock swing, or under an infrared lamp, it was nice to do nothing for a while.

Kalla Flotation Bath

If you’ve never experienced flotation therapy before, it’s hard to compare to anything else! The Kalla Flotation Bath at Thermea Spa Village is a massive underground saltwater pool where you can float effortlessly like you’re in the Dead Sea.

It’s incredible how peaceful it is to completely relax your muscles, clear your mind, and just let yourself float and drift for as long as you’d like.

I left feeling much lighter, relaxed, and with smoother skin!

Rhassoul Experience

Later in the afternoon, we headed to the Rhassoul Experience. The treatment takes place in a private steam chamber where mineral-rich Moroccan clay, sea salt, and essential oils are used to purify and hydrate the skin.

Our Rhassoul guide took us through the entire experience and ensured we were very present throughout. Of course there were some giggles as we covered ourselves in clay which made it all very lighthearted and fun. And I again left with my skin feeling even smoother!
