Romanticizing a Weekday Evening at Thermea Spa Village

As a 30 year-old living in Winnipeg, it can be easy to wrap up the workday at 5 p.m. and simply live for the weekend. But lately, I’ve been trying to romanticize my evenings a little more and find new ways to slow down, recharge, and do things that actually fill my cup during the week.

That’s exactly why I booked myself a weekday evening at Thermea Spa Village.

I arrived right at 5 p.m. which meant I had a full five hours ahead of me to relax, indulge, and fully enjoy the experience. And honestly? It ended up being the perfect reminder that you don’t need a full day off to feel like you’ve escaped.

5:00 p.m. —Arriving & Beginning the Thermal Cycle

The moment you enter the Spa Village, the first thing you noticed is the scent. The crisp eucalyptus in the air immediately signals that you’re somewhere different, somewhere calm.

The space feels warm and inviting as you move between saunas, steam rooms, baths, and cozy relaxation areas. Even just walking through the Village starts to slow your pace.

I started my evening with a classic thermal cycle, which is the heart of the spa experience: heat, cold, and rest.

My first stop was the temperate pool. I spent a few quiet minutes breathing deeply and letting my body unwind from workday.

Next came the cold plunge. It’s always a little shocking at first, but the invigorating feeling afterwards is worth it every time.

After that, I relaxed in front of the fire on the heated stone tiles, while sipping strawberry basil infused water. It felt like such a simple treat after a busy day.

From there, I headed straight into the warm steam room, where citrusy steam surrounded my senses and filled the space. The contrast between the cold outside and heat inside instantly made my body feel relaxed and re-energized at the same time.

6:00 p.m. —Rest, Firelight & a Good Book

After the hot and cold cycle, I moved into one of the outdoor relaxation areas. Wrapped in a wool blanket by a wood-burning fire, I spent some time reading my book and simply enjoying the atmosphere. The scent of pine, the crackle of the fire in the core energy of the Village in the evening made it incredibly peaceful.

This part of the thermal cycle, rest, might actually be my favourite.

7:00 p.m. —Dinner at Le Resto

Later in the evening, I met up with a friend for dinner at Le Resto, which made the night feel even more special.

We shared the Mushroom Confit which included mixed mushrooms simmered in herbs and olive oil swirled with whipped truffle crème paired with local Friend Bakery sourdough. We enjoyed this dish with a glass of wine, and I ordered a comforting tomato red bisque soup. It was exactly the kind of cozy meal that fuels you for another round of the cycles without feeling heavy.

Dining here felt like a natural part of the spa experience, no rush, just relaxed conversation and good food.

8:00 p.m. —Another Thermal Cycle & Exfoliation

With the evening settling in, we headed back out for another round of the thermal cycle. This time we started in a dry sauna before cooling off with another cold plunge and relaxing in the hot baths.

One thing I love about this spa is how many ways you can experience the cycle, moving between baths, saunas, and rest areas depending on how your body feels.

Before ending the night, I stepped into the exfoliation room, using mineral salts to gently exfoliate my skin before rinsing off in the showers. It’s a small ritual that makes you feel completely refreshed and is a must do before leaving.

9:00 p.m. —S’mores, Hot Chocolate & Ending the Night

One of my favourite little evening traditions at the spa is ending the night by the fire. We made s’mores, gabbed hot chocolate and sat outside, watching the steam rise from the baths as the night settled in around us.

Moments like these are the best of the unexpected, simple, cozy, and memorable.

By the time I left later that evening, I felt completely recharged. Five hours had passed, but it truly felt like a full getaway.

If you’ve ever thought an evening at the spa wouldn’t be enough time, this is your sign to try it. A weekday evening here truly is an escape from modern day life and every day worries.

Sometimes the best way to break up the week is to simply make time for breaks.
