Ever wondered what a bartender orders when they’re off duty? Or which roller coaster ride is a theme park employee’s personal favourite? A florist’s bloom of choice? Lately, we’ve been curious: what does a perfect spa day look like for an Artisan?
Today, Calypso Malcolm from our Guest Experience team is answering that exact question. Step into her sandals and see the Spa Village through expert eyes.
A Little Bit About Calypso

Originally from British Columbia, Calypso moved to the Prairies about a decade ago and has called Manitoba home for a few years now. She has a few pets, loves to travel and does her best to live life to the fullest. She recently took up running and, while she’s made it her entire personality, she still isn’t sure she’s a fan. At the Spa Village, and in life, you’ll find that she’s always the one answering the call for assistance; she loves helping people and will never shy away from boosting everyone’s spirits.

Interview: Calypso’s Perfect Spa Day

Question: Picture your dream spa day. What season is it?

Answer: I love summer at the spa! There’s nothing quite like a light breeze on a hot summer day, listening to the sound of the leaves, with a book in hand while swaying on a hammock. Plus, the Biergarden with wood-fired pizza is only open in the summer and nothing beats the pretzel bites they make there!
Q: What time of the day is it?

A: It’s the evening, midweek—quiet and magical. Once the sun goes down, the lights in the trees come on, and it feels like you practically have the spa to yourself. The smell from the fires is soothing, the air is warm and as the kids these days would say, the vibes are immaculate.
Q: Where do you go first?

A: My first stop is always Temper, it’s the perfect temperature to start off my relaxing day in the Spa Village.
Q: Next?

A: Most likely, if the timing’s right, my next stop is an Aufguss. My favourites are the Arboreal or the Discovery. I love the Finlandia sauna where the rituals take place—especially when the Ritual Artisan uses wintergreen and blood orange essential oils—but if we’re in between on the schedule, I like heading to the Eucalyptus Vaporo to do some deep breaths, really clear out my lungs and start the thermal cycle.
Q: How do you cool down after that?

A: Definitely with a dip through the Polarber, sometimes I like to challenge myself and see how long I can last in it—but only in the summer. During the winter I fly through it as quickly as possible!
Q: And for the last step of the thermal cycle. Where do you go to rest?

A: I’ll either take my book into the Temper bath, or I’ll go lay on a hammock on the beach.
Q: Getting hungry?

A: Yes! At Le Resto, I love to start with the mushroom confit and then whatever version of the chicken burger is on the menu. My favourite version so far was from a couple summers ago, it had lingonberry! If I’m not feeling the burger, I’ll go with a Croque Nordik. When the brown butter carrot soup is on the menu, I always get that too. As for drinks, it’s either a lemonade or a sangria.
Q: What’s next?

A: If I indulge in a treatment, I love the Head in the Clouds one. The cooling portion feels amazing, and your scalp feels so good after. Bonus: if you fall asleep and snore funny, the estheticians won’t make fun of you!
Q: How are you ending this perfect day?

A: With hot chocolate in Flam, of course.
