As our Yoga at the Spa event gets closer (it’s September 17!), you might’ve started to wonder a few things. Let’s sit down for a chat with Kelly, the Co-owner of Power Yoga Canada Oshawa and Co-founder of Breathwork Healing, and get to know her, the studio and the answers to all our yoga questions.
The Answers to Your Questions
How long has Power Yoga Canada Oshawa been around?
Our studio was born in 2012, so it’s been open 12 years! Originally, we brought Power Yoga Canada to Oshawa as a way for the community to come together and empower each other to take action in their lives through yoga. Since then, the community has taken on a heart of its own and it’s become a second home for people to be vulnerable, to show up authentically and to do some deep inner healing.
What’s the first thing you do when you get to the studio?
Say hello and connect with everyone that I see when I walk in the front door! People want to be seen. I am here to listen generously to my community and learn from them.
What’s the best way to get introduced to yoga?
To show up ready and open to experience something new, something more special than a physical workout! Years ago, I started doing yoga because my friend and I wanted to try something different than our usual gym workout, it’s that easy!
What should someone expect during their first yoga class?
To be welcomed with open arms and challenged in a way that leaves you wanting more!
What kind of classes are you bringing to the spa?
Our teachers are bringing all levels Vinyasa Flow to the spa. Something we don’t carry on our regular schedule so it will be a treat! I think it’s wonderful that we get to bring yoga to the village, and I know our teachers are very excited to meet the spa community and share what they love.
What’s the most popular class at your studio?
Deep Flow! It’s juicy, and hits deep in all the right spots!
What’s your favourite class to give?
I used to love teaching a straight up power class with no music but lately I absolutely love teaching deep flow with slow, purposeful music that allows the community and myself to look deeper than the physical postures! To bring transformation in allows you to dive into the emotional and spiritual side of the practice so that you leave feeling lighter in your head and heart.
What’s your favourite class to take?
My business wife Debbie has always been my mentor and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the challenge of getting vulnerable and looking at the wounds I carry. She has a way of bringing me to these places where I can access a new perspective and heal on a deep level. So, long story short, any of Debbie Smith’s classes!
Any parting words?
If you read this far, I’d just like to say thank you for setting aside your time to get to know me and my community a little more! Enjoy your day!
